There are 8 replies, with the last one on Oct 15 2008 at 10:32:20 PM by Hey4horses
Quote:
Artsypets,
We all have had these posts before deleted or added to SBR forum many times before, and I have finally realized that until SBR can get more placed, the same brokers that AC4H posts will keep getting more from the same pool that SBR does. And it is far better to get ones placed from SBR as they are professionally evaluated and pass the first vet, farrier and dental exams and care prior to placement in most cases.

Those of us who stil cannot stand to see them going back on the kill broker truck or to another auction help Kross and the trot group from time to time and do what we can. It isn't because we are not helping SBR at the same time with placement, fund raising, donations of time, money and supplies. Don't lose your enthusiasm, but do get others to help with the cause. Lead by your example and firm committment within the ASB world that you are engaged in this long term battle to keep our ASBs safe and out danger.

I tried to save the pony two weeks ago, but the lines of communication fell down, we had the funds raised and a home, and she was "gone". They (trot community and SBR members)saved the next Hackney Pony mare and found her a home too (not mine). Email KRoss if you have some ideas or know of some donations.

If you booked rooms now, you can share a double for about $169 a night, which is a great rate for a Louisville hotel room. Who knows, try priceline, and you might get it cheaper!!!

Once she can get back to the sale, that should decrease the amount of broker horses on AC4H, if we have enough space to home, and money to buy.

Go to their site and join their Yahoo discussion group and you'll get as many emails sent to you as possible !! In fact it's a little overwhelming, but they have some haulers that are very active in that group - one is Worlye's Hauling, and people shipping on other transports all the time posting load space. Check it out ASAP as I saw a good one just last night on there!!

There are 85 replies, with the last one on Oct 15 2008 at 2:03:36 PM by artsypets
Quote:
this horse DOES Look to have allot of great characteristics for dressage as a Saddlebred. 1. she has a nice balanced conformation - ie: she is not too long backed, or long necked for it. (too long a neck in a dressage horse can make it too likely a horse will "break" in it's vertebra a ways behind the ears rather than really bend AT the poll from accepting the bit and stepping INTO it from behind. It is essentially "overbent" or behind though it may still feel like it is "there" to the unskilled rider. This will break that connection from back leg to individual rein and that is essential to go up the levels).
A very long back in dressage can make the horse comfortable to sit but the more advanced work will become harder for it as it must LIFT it's back and that is hard when the back is longer and weaker at the loin.
2. She has a nice medium ANGLE of neck - not bolt upright like many saddlbreds - which IS a desirable trait for a show horse lol! So again, she would be less likely to find it difficult to keep that hand to hind leg connection.
3. She looks to have a nice long stride, loose shoulder and step under herself. All big pluses.
4. She has prescence (all Saddlebreds do that is why I LOVE them so!); and beauty, always a good thing to make the whole picture more appealing and elegant in dressage.

Her only minus so far for me is age. She is just too old for a dressge person with MY ambitions..BUT not too old for lower level dressage, which is more than suitable for many riders. Most dressagey folk are happy to get to 2nd 3rd level and do some hunter stuff, some show pleasure stuff and trail riding and all that is good at her age!! But for us fools that want to get to FEI..well..we need a young-ish'n! She'd make a great dressage horse mommy I bet crossed with a Fresian or a Georgian Grande stud.
