This is the horse that Nealia was calling Raymond, and he is so pretty, but very thin. He still, as Nealia called it, has the Look-of-Eagles that you find in a racehorse. Despite all he's been through, he still approaches life with his head and ears up! He's big for a standardbred, I would guess 16+ hands, but seemed very kind. Probably 20+ years, I looked at his tatoo, but had trouble reading it, and haven't had time to look him up on the USTA with any guesses. His legs were very clean, for having been on the road, except for the scarring on his knees, where he has been down on the asphalt at some point. He did trot thru the sale sound.

Today Doug clean up Sirius and as all of the standardbreds have been he stood perfect. I think he is beautiful and I can not wait to see him fat. We will give him a week or so before we hook him. Friday I will have Jason get pictures of him.

I changed his name to go with the Harry Potter theme.

Oh goodness I can hardly wait to see this fellow! Hugs to Nealia and Karen and Pat for bringing this guy home, we have racehorses and they work sooo hard that it make me sad to think where some of these poor creatures end up....

The big guy has scarring around his face, nothing deep or serious, just travel wear, I'd guess. His ankles and fetlocks were clean, as were his hocks. No signs of ever being pin fired, or a freeze brand, so I wonder if he flunked out of standardbred school early in life....
Pat or Jason, can you try and get a picture of the tattoo for me?

Jason got a picture of the tatoo, and I forwarded it to Hillary. It's not very clear(the tatoo, not the picture) I'm guessing over 17 for sure, and am working on it. I just need some facial pics to confirm markings versus scars. Sorry Jason, just what you need is more things to do!

Nealia, Pat Karen, or anyone who has met Sirius in person...

Do you think he could be considered brown as well, or is he definitely black? I have found some matches with him after having deciphered his tattoo (several ideas on that, argh..) but I don't want to miss any. Also, it has been mentioned he has some scarring on his face, does he have any white hair that looks like it is scarring, have found a match that mentions white hair to the right of the face...

Thanks for the help, hope we can ID him!

Thanks that will narrow things down A LOT....I have looked though, and until we have a pic of his face head on an can confirm anything that may be a marking I think searching more will not get us very far, there are so many!

Could we please please pretty pretty please have a pic of his face or a definite confirmation of
no markings at all ?

Anybody at NWS feel like taking a non toxic marker to the barn and playing connect-the-dots on the inside of this guys lip??? lol

Just an FYI, I have made a nice contact in a lady at the USTA, and she has agreed to look up any horses that may be a match for Raymond, or any other standardbred that SBR comes across, and let us know which are trotters and which are pacing bred. In many cases I can tell by the sire or dam, but at times the bloodlines are a bit vague and I don't know. This will help us to narrow our search further.

I explained to her what SBR does, and she said she would be happy to assist.

So we can compile a list of possibilities and then I can forward them to her. Nealia, a little birdie told me you may try to connect the dots of Raymond's tattoo, so I will wait to hear from you or Karen before I look again, there are 1000001 standardbreds that are black with no markings, but with a good guess at the tattoo and help from the USTA I really think we can give this boy his identity back!

Sirius (aka Raymond) would be a GOOD BOY for anyone as he looks as though he wants some arms to put around his neck. What a darling boy!!! I've been waiting for his pictures and now we've got somethin' to talk about here!!!
