Today I had Jason go a get Sirious Black up to drive and I must say he is soooooo much fatter in a short period of time it is surprising. This tells me that this horse just was not being feed at all.
We drove Sirious when we first got him and he was great to drive, a saint to hook and just a good guy. Well today he was even better, he remembered going into the corners and tryed to stay straight on the rail. WOW does he work great with the once a month training program. I let Julie, Anne's daughter drive him and I really think she enjoyed the old guy. This horse likes to work and if he could get some motion and fatter, and in shape he might be cute in the road horse classes, that is if we can figure out who he is.
I can not say enough nice things about this horse, he is even easy to catch in the field.

Today was a good day for me, I don't know if Sirius Black feels the same way but, I was lucky enough to drive with him today. Nealia was good enough to let me drive. Jason drove him first and then it was my turn. It was more training for me than for him. Mr. Black has definitely done this before and I don't know what else he can do but, he can definitely work in harness. I certainly need more work but, if you're looking for a horse to drive he's right here.

Has he ever been ridden? Just wondering if he could be a roadster under saddle like Det. Would love a picture in action if you are taking pictures tomorrow. You can post them here and I'll grab them. Large size not necessary now. I've got a super solution!!!! Thank you, Doug, for your posts!!!! These truly help in finding homes!!! Please keep them coming.

Until we identify him for sure, he can't be shown. I would also like to know if he is rideable, just as a way of placing him, for someone that wants a great driving and riding horse.

Nealia, wait until after the WC tryouts. It's not that important, and I know how much WC means to Jessie. This horse has probably never been ridden, and you shouldn't take any chances. He probably will be safe, maybe a little , but it's just a question we would like answered, not something that has to be done now.

Hi, Anne's daughter, Julie, here. Last time I was up at NWS, I quietly mentioned, "I've always wanted to drive a Standardbred, it seems so fun." Nealia just looked at me and went, "Go get Sirius and have fun!" I have to say, it really WAS fun! I'm iffy on my driving, but he just went around the ring like a good boy. I really like this horse, so someone snag him up before I do!

Julie, if you like driving at Nealia's, you should come visit us at DeLovely. Nealia's indoor isn't exactly conducive to road horses. It may work well for everything else, but the road horses need a little more space. You and Jessie need to take a road trip!

This year, the UPHA Chapter 14 Spring Premiere is offering an Opportunity class for Roadster to bike & I'm pretty sure under Opportunity guidelines that it's open to all breeds reg. or not. So Doug, keep practicing & bring him to Spring Premiere!
I'm gonna look up those Opportunity rules.

If it's a USEF rated show, they have to be registered, and entered under the recorded owners name.

As I understand, not if it's an Open Class that isn't breed specific. Opportunity Classes are exempt from D & M fees (but not exempt from drug testing-I know this when my academy horse got tested last year), USEF Membership, and Open to all breeds. Most Eligility to Show language (requiring the registered/recorded owner proof) is for breed restricted classes. As an example, Academy Horses shown at USEF shows do not have to be registered, or shown under the recorded owner's name.
This Opportunity stuff is new this year- but I think that' the jist of it.

I'm not trying to argue with you about this, but standardbreds have to have proof of ownership under the ARHPHA rules, and a certificate of eligiblity from the ARHPA in order to show. I'm not sure what your Opportunity class is, but those are the guidelines for all other classes.

I don't consider this an argument. I consider this a good exchange of information to get clarification on what I perceive of a very possible way for rescued ASBs without their papers to show at USEF Shows in these new USEF Opportunity Classes.
Opportunity Classes are new this year, they are a new USEF thing. SEe GR821, GR407.1, 401.9 and GR 137. As I understand them, this is the PERFECT way for a completely open division to encourage more people to get involved in horse showing.

The way the specifications were written for this class any horse can go in it. Doesn't need papers of any type. This is per USEF.

LOL Nealia, ooooooh I can get you silks I imagine, & I am sure Nicholas has a harness somehow somewhere. I bet Christ will watch the sale for a bike for you.
The way the Opportunity Classes seem to be shaking out will be a great way for shows across the country to get unconventional combinations of breeds and types in the ring @ a USEF show to bring some variety and excitement to the ring without having to go thru the red tape of which judge w/which card had to judge it etc.
This link gives a good explanation of the thought process behind it. http://www.horsesdaily.com/news/tour/2007/07usef-conv/dd_usef_conv6.html
